Description: Combination feeding is increasingly common, yet many healthcare professionals receive limited training on how to support families who use both breast milk and formula. In this second session of our four-part Combo Feeding Curriculum, we'll explore why families choose—or transition to—combination feeding and what the evidence says about outcomes. Participants will examine the differences between intentional combination feeding and unplanned supplementation, the impact of supplementation timing on milk production, and the medical, personal, and workplace factors that shape feeding decisions. Attendees will leave with practical, evidence-based insights to provide individualized, family-centered support. Description: This educational session explores the critical role of infant nutrition in supporting growth and development during early life. Attendees will gain a foundational understanding of how infant formula is regulated in the United States, including the Infant Formula Act and related safety and quality standards. The program will also review the key components of infant formula and how they are designed to meet infants’ nutritional needs. In addition, participants will learn about emerging bioactive ingredients and their potential role in infant health, as well as how the recent infant formula shortage has impacted families, healthcare providers, and the broader infant nutrition industry.
